College Board Theme: Development and Interactions of Cultures because it is quite literally exactly that. I will be describing the development of Institutional Christianity in Europe, which directly is described in this College Board Theme.
Overview and Spread
|
- Charlemagne sometimes advertised and helped the spread of Christianity through the way of military power.
- By year 1000, most of the Pagan and other religions were eliminated in western Europe and it was dominantly Christianity, some of it through force.
- As an example of Charlemagne forcing the religion upon people and their families, through 772-804 C.E. he insisted and fought a tough battle that the Saxons (Pagan culture part of north Germany) to insure they converted to Christianity and eventually did end up winning against them.
- Another major help to Christianity and its spread was the fact that Charlemagne was sponsoring the Roman Church and was actively doing everything he possibly could to get people converted to said religion.
Papal
|
- Gregory had his successors follow this set-up and to continue converting more and more groups of people to The Papacy.
- Gregory was also a Monk, as so were many of the successful Popes after him.
